What does AIKIDO actually mean?
Aikido is a martial discipline that teaches how to join with other forces or ideas, and depending on the context, how to control or work in harmony with them.
AI - join, unify in harmony
KI - spirit, life, energy
DO - the path, the way
THE 5-PHASE METHOD · PHASE 1 OF 5
01
Respiratory & muscular re-education
Before you learn a single technique, you re-learn how to breathe and move. Most of us carry tension patterns and habitual muscle use that work against us on the mat.
This phase strips that back.
Aikido is based on anatomical, structural and physical principles.
THE 5-PHASE METHOD · PHASE 2 OF 5
02
Triple alignment — body + intention + breath
Aikido works because the body, mental intention and breath move together, not separately.
This phase trains that coordination directly.
Unification begins within ourselves, the way we move, the intention we put and the way we breath.
THE 5-PHASE METHOD · PHASE 3 OF 5
03
Ukemi — learning to receive
In Aikido leaning to receive the techniques is as important, if not more important than applying them. It's an active skill: staying safe, aligned and connected during practice.
This phase is the door to true understanding and embodiment of Aikido techniques.
For most students, the single most confidence-building phase of the course.
THE 5-PHASE METHOD · PHASE 4 OF 5
04
Lead – Control - Apply
Every Aikido technique follows the same structure — leading an attack, gaining control of it, and applying a resolution.
In this phase is where it comes together.
Understand this structure, and you understand why techniques succeed or fail.

Mind & Character
Aikido is a Martial Discipline (or Budo in Japanese) — its purpose is to develop character and discipline of the individual.
This phase is the beginning and end goal of all our training.
Focus under pressure, composure, resilience, empathy.
